Plus Post – Week 5

Plus Post – Week 5

Rookie mistake. Walked into this week thinking I’m quite familiar with Ps. Took about 2-3 experiments to disabuse me of this notion.

The last time I played with filters, was ages ago. So much has changed. I don’t think I’ve tried all the filters available. And phone apps … that’s a task that requires a whole week (because of my phone, not time)

I fell back to known filters each time I had to submit a photograph. This latest one was an attempt to try different filters on different part of the images as well as some plugins.

Take away for the week:

Subjects: Choosing a subject that easily identifiable (at least at the offset), and build around it.

Start with a good pic: Experimented with Christmas lights (street), with flowers and people and objects, but unless there was a sharp contrast in the photo, the blur didn’t do much. Busy photos didn’t work well either. Or I haven’t found a recipe that works with the photos I tried.

Experiment: When you think you’ve gone as far as you can go, or if you’re stuck. Give a new filter a whirl. There is always a surprise in store.

Wine: When creativity hits a road block. I take a break, read a book, sip on some lovely tinto. I can’t always tell if it’s the break, the reading or the wine that does the most work. But yeah. It helps. 😛

  1. Great reflection on your week. I too thought I knew what to do in PS but realised I hadn’t really used it for 18 months. How quickly the mind forgets . . .

I love this scene, but then I love the mountains. Where is it? I’m toying with doing a long distance mountain trek next summer with my teenager. I’m naturally drawn to Scotland, but it’s time to look elsewhere.

  2. Great image, approach and psychological therapy Lucille Galleli!! If you are away from something a long time, things change and we may have forgotten others. There is a time for studying, research and play. When blocked, a change of some kind is needed…. Wine works for me too!! Salud!! :))

  3. Yes, mon ami. And age… ah that insolent fool!

This range is in Argentina. Caught it on the way to Perito Moreno.

Let me know if you decide on anything in Europe. If time and place permits, will try and catch up for a drink at least 🙂
