The After(math)
At the start of the mentorship, Heiko Mahr dared us to little challenge. A before and after shoot at the same spot to mark the start and end of the mentorship.
Boy, have I been given ammo!
Background: I shoot a lot of flowers. Mostly in my garden. Living in a little suburb that’s far from absolutely everything does do that to a person.
So, quite unsurprisingly, my Before was shot in my own backyard.
For the after I tried to wait for the same time of day and even turned the sprinklers on early to try to simulate the same elements available to me during my Before shoot.
Here are some of the shots I came up with from my very, very, very often photographed backyard.
I did take a bit more than 10 minutes on this one since I tried various techniques, zoom, multiple exposure, long exposure … etc…
My main Mac broke a couple of weeks ago. It’ll be a few more days till I fix it and meanwhile I’ve been without access to any of the photos taken during the session or my regular tools.
So with a new install of LR, PS and some of my favourite plugins on a MacBook Air that’s as slow as a snail, I’ve tried some new techniques, keeping in mind Alex Lapidus’s sage advice to ask myself “Will I dare post that?”.
I’ve intentionally shot the same subjects, trying to see if I could come up with something new. I do feel I have miles to go to get the polished look that I so long for, but I’m so glad I can walk in my garden and still find something worth shooting 🙂
Hoorah for blurs!
My heartfelt gratitude to Alex Lapidus, Heiko Mahr and all the amazing moderators and mentees who have made this journey into blurry land such a pleasure 😀

Pure fun, great to see these!
Thanks a bunch, Alex Lapidus …. have only yourself to blame 😀
I have that same feeling, I spend alot of time in my yard away from everything. These are great, it’s such a wonderful feeling that your yard will never be the same again.
Love the album! You are obviously having fun! (I shoot a lot in my yard too.)
I can feel you enjoyed yourself a lot creating ! Love your idea of shooting your background.
So glad we share that Red Caldwell… 🙂
Thanks for stopping by to comment. Would love to see more of your garden 😀
Thanks Mary Wardell…. Guilty as charged 😀
hee hee … thanks Françoise Dhulesia… not the same as the streets of France, but I’m glad I have a place to start 😀
Great images Lucille Galleli – the garden hose makes me smile – and all images are just fabulous – it was such a fun experiment!!
