Hello All

Hello All,

Firstly thanks so much teresa pilcher for running this mentorship and accepting me in.

I’m a hobbyist photographer, based out of Madrid. I’ve been shooting for several years now, but mostly macros, landscapes and travel photography. I’ve tried my hand at street photography several times, but somehow it’s never been the genre that has held me enraptured. Maybe cause most street photography I see is monochrome, and I’m more of a “throw in all the colours you own” kind of photographer. Or maybe I’m just unable to see the story and react quickly enough. That’s one major handicap I’d like to overcome during this programme.

I took the blurs mentorship, led by the amazing Alex Lapidus, last year, and I have begun to see images where earlier I wouldn’t have been able to. I find myself using blur quite a bit especially while photographing street.

Being self taught, I realise there is much to unlearn and learn, but I’m coming into this mentorship with my cup empty. If my experience in other mentorships is anything to go by, it’s soon going to be overflowing πŸ˜€

The last Scott Kelby walk was smack in the middle of the Catalunya crisis and the image that I’ve selected as introduction, is the only image I came up with during that walk.

[My main camera is a Nikon D800, however I try to carry an Olympus E-M5 on a daily basis]

  1. Wonderful colours Lucille Galleli There is that very stark, very monochrome, very low key perception of street photography, but it doesn’t have to be that. I hope you find what you’re looking for. I did. And it’s not monochrome, sharp, low key… πŸ™‚

  2. An excellent introduction, Lucille and I can feel the enthusiasm and positive energy I saw in you in Paris recently. I do know you will learn so much and will enjoy putting all your creativity into finding a unique vision!

Love the colours and blur feel in your post!

    Enjoy the journey, Lucille!

  3. Hello again Lucille! There is certainly nothing wrong with loving bold color as you have here. I think we are drawn to certain things so exploring everything is key. I look forward to seeing your work in the weeks to come.

  4. Jenn Camforth … Thanks much. I’ve been filled with trepidation about street cause I don’t see myself making images like the ones I see in a all street photography books. I’m quite positive that this is the perfect place to branch out and do something different.

  5. FranΓ§oise Dhulesia .. thank you so much πŸ˜€ You are kindness itself. I’m looking forward to learning much and I’m so delighted to have you as one of my guides. Big hugs!

  6. Great to meet you here Lucille Galleli your introduction image is great motion and colours! Will be very enjoyable having your splash of colours with us on this journey! Love the blurry ones! It hopefully will be my next Mentorship here in G+ that I try to sign up for.

  7. Great to see you again Lucille Galleli. Love the energetic image full of color. I think when you learn a bit more about the disciplines of street photography you will know that your street photography is just that – yours – monochrome or not – sharp or not – etc. they will be your streets and your vision! Happy you are along on the journey!

  8. Lucille Galleli I wouldn’t want to make these images either. But I recognise what lies behind them. This mentorship is aptly named. You will find your own vision. Be it blurred like mine, or maybe sharp. Who knows.

  9. great to meet you here Lucille, what a fabulous image, love the colors and the movement! I’m sure you’ll find your own vision in street photography, I’m doing both in all ways…blur/sharp monochrome/color there are no restrictions πŸ™‚

  10. Lucille Galleli wonderfull to meet again, I am with you about colour and your image is wonderful and full of energy. I am sure by the end of this you will have a much deeper appreciation for street and you work in great place to find a great variety of people. There isnt a better forum to get started. All the best.

  11. Lucille Galleli A wonderful splash of colour! Your image has me intrigued. Is it a dress? or a procession.. Did you know that colour is making a big come back in SP? Here we want to celebrate our differences and do more of it.. So don’t be worried about conforming to the Street Photographers books, there are plenty of contemporary artists redefining this genre! Welcome again and I’m very excited to have you here.

  12. Nice to meet you Lucille Galleli. I love the color and sense of motion in your photo. The blur technique is something I am just starting to explore. . . it can create some interesting and unique images.

  13. Lucille Galleli Hi Lucille! Lovely to read more about you πŸ™‚ Welcome to FYV – I think you’ve already got one of the greatest assets already for Street… imagination and an artistic flair. Doesn’t get to he a better starting point 😊

  14. happy to have you with us..

    and again remember Ansel adams:

there are no rules for good photos.

    There are just good photos.

So there are not rules for good SP images,

just good SP images Lucille Galleli

  15. Lucille Galleli Welcome to the mentorship Lucille, it’s great to be in another mentorship with you. I agree with Heiko, no rules, just good photos, and in FYV you’ll certainly find your own vision on the way to that goal. I love this photo, I do enjoy B&W but there are just times when only colour will do, and this is certainly one of those times.

  16. Hola Lucille Galleli!! i just love this shot with the spanish colors covering the city. It’s a terrific social statement of the moment and its fleeting run through the city. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that we are sharing this mentorship together. πŸ˜€

  17. Jenn Camforth … that’s such a comfort to hear. I don’t like being boxed. That’s why I enjoy these mentorships. They give us the tools, but don’t insist on it being used in only one prescribed way πŸ˜€

  18. Angelo Gifford … thank you so much. Couldn’t agree more. The universe is conspiring to make me a better photographer, who am I to oppose it πŸ˜€ So glad to have you around πŸ˜€

  19. teresa pilcher … many thanks! Didn’t know about the comeback until you mentioned it. Looks like I didn’t connect the dots πŸ˜€ which is why I’m doubly glad to be on this journey with you.

The image was taken at a traffic signal. The people were heading towards the central square to participate in a demonstration for an unified country (Catalunya chose independence). Almost everyone carried a flag and this little boy wore his as a cape.

  20. Karen Spink .. thanks a bunch. Yes blur can communicate in ways that many other techniques can’t compare with. I’m glad you enjoyed the image. I look forward to seeing your work.

  21. Kitten KaboodleInc …ha ha .. .thank you so much. You are so very kind. Can’t wait to see what I get to learn from this mentorship. I already see that I’m in fantastic company. Thank you so much πŸ˜€

  22. Chris Sutton Thanks so much for dropping by to welcome me and pen such an insightful comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the picture and happier still that this image has received such positive reception all around. Look forward to learning so much more πŸ˜€

  23. Carmen Mandich … I’m so glad to read this comment. This image was so personal and emotional. Being right in the middle of the entire ruckus and watching families being torn apart and businesses being run to the ground, it made me just want to scream… that’s what I titled this image πŸ™‚

So glad we are doing this together. We should try and catch up and shoot together one week πŸ™‚

  24. Lucille Galleli I was thinking exactly the same thing!! Let’ plan on getting together. It would be great to see how our visions match and differ. We’ll talk soon!! :))
