I remember a few years ago there was a big to-do about Anderson Cooper helping some people during the aftermath of Katrina. Other news sites (ie: Fox) berated him saying it was not for journalists to be involved. Anderson replied: just because he’s a journalist doesn’t mean he’s not human.
I’ve never shot photography in an area like the one portrayed in the above clip, but I have lived in one when I was in the military. It’s not for me to sit on the sidelines. I can’t say for sure what I would have done in this situation, would I have taken a shot or two or not, but I know I would have tried to distract the gunman one way or another so the girl could run off.
