Assignment 3, image 3 – Background still and subject in motion
This is one of the busiest streets for foot traffic, but somehow word was out that I had my camera and a purpose and the world collectively decided to keep away.
I chose this structure to pan an moving subject, hate to admit I was caught unawares, but I’m glad it made it to the selected ones 🙂

Most intriguing shot with passing silhouette!
Glad you think so, Françoise Dhulesia… I hope to get a model daring enough to crawl through. I think it’ll make for a fun image 🙂
Lucille Galleli ahah!!
Nice effect with her(?) giant sombrero 🙂 For these kinds of shots, light is very important, because the brighter elements will pop out even if they’re only exposed for a smaller portion of the shot. So the center of your frame becomes an interesting balance of the brighter portion of the person with the bright hole in the sculpture.
True that Alex Lapidus… One assignment taught me so many lessons. In retrospect, the shadow of the sculpture would have upped the game. I should pay more attention to the details. 🙂
Great idea with the sculpture.
I had a similar problem! I picked a spot for panning where there are normally hundreds of cyclists and scooters passing, but when I got there, no one was out playing. Interesting the way their head is connected to the bright circle. I’m curious to know, did you mute the colours,it looks like half way from colour to B&W? Was it part of the dreary neighborhood or you wanted to match the colour to the feeling of the place?
This is cool – works well for me!
Thanks much Cathy Custer Donohoue… appreciate it!
ha ha … Murphy always comes to visit Edward Norton.
Yes, I did leech out the colours. In my head, that’s how I saw it. Dry, dusty, old.
Glad you noticed 😀
Thanks a bunch, Gernot Glaeser 🙂
The base looks like it is moving Lucille Galleli!! What a cool effect. :))
Hee hee …. I was toying with the idea of making it seem like a spaceship. Another reason to go back, Carmen Mandich 😀
Thanks for stopping by 😉
Lucille Galleli Definitely go back!! You are on a roll!!! :))
Yes ma’am!
