Week 7 – Plus Post
7 weeks down. Whoaaa!! I can’t believe we are in the last week.
Long story short, making something complex is not as simple as it seems.
I love the minimalistic look. Japanese artists with a penchant to oversimplify. And here we are, adding complexity. Challenge accepted.
I loved the examples we were given. They had me drooling. (Like ugly drooling) And then the art that created by fellow mentees and the moderators. Wow… I couldn’t wait to get out and get shooting.
Concepts read, reread and digested, I decided on a different stop instead of the regular place I go to shoot. Great choice. Huge shop windows, old architecture and tons of people walking around.
Couldn’t get easier.
Couldn’t get harder.
Lol…
It’s painful when the theory and videos indicate it’s so doable and then the streets just decide to make it hideously difficult. I couldn’t stop laughing at the irony. But yeah, I’ve found a fantastic spot for Street photography!
This week was different as I got a taste of the ugly part of street photography as well, with a concierge running out and yelling at me for shooting a reflection, refusing to listen to anything I said. And then he got down to using really vulgar language. Icky! Put me off shooting for the rest of the evening, but on my way to the underground the sun came out to play and the long shadows had me shooting again. Thank goodness!
I don’t know if this happens to everyone, but while shooting, I know for certain if I’ve nailed a shot or something close to my vision. My money-shot. This time I didn’t feel I had it. But then I downloaded the images and yeah… They had potential. From reflections, shadows, self-portraits, Multiple Exposure to regular in your face shots. I tried everything. Still happily grinning at the various takes of the day.
Lessons gleaned:
Walk down smaller alleys, especially in a city like mine. They are gold mines.
Read up on your rights before shooting street. Just to give yourself some peace of mind.
Process in colour, but try a B&W version too. While processing I found myself switching to B&W very often. Unless one is really lucky, the colour palette in complex composition, tends not to lean toward ideal.

………..”so doable and then the streets just decide to make it hideously difficult” LOL Lucille Galleli you are adorable and I love your take, your humor. I have SO been there. I had my mall cop story this week too. It’s great when you can brush it off and keep going and then end up with golden nuggets. I love your image – great color, there’s a story. Eateries are great subjects. You worked it and you persevered! Great job.
I envisioned this ME totally differently. LOL.

Not exactly a reflection, But I loved how serious the couple got at the guy’s command!

Marsha Leigh … High Five, girl. Thank you so much. Am so glad you enjoy my posts 😀
Strangely, the cops haven’t been as disruptive to my photography as this man was. I went from a 100 to 0 in a couple of seconds. Thankfully a couple of bystanders decided to give me a pep talk and that kept me going.
Thank you so much for your kind comments. Hope your shooting goes smoothly here onwards 🙂
Wonderful post as always! I like your humour! I like your street encounters!
Françoise Dhulesia … must admit … I’ve found a gold mine. Thank you so much for your generous comment 😀
Lucille Galleli I’m also a minimalist at heart but I love complexities. Go figure! A wonderful outside/ inside scene and you really nailed it. The arches and the opacity adds a unique element. I enjoy the hint of the self portrait/reflection as well. So sorry to hear about the concierge experience but I often wonder about people like that, does he have something to hide? It will make you more resilient but it is still surprising when it happens like that. Well done for getting back on the horse! A fabulous post!! You had me laughing out loud ;)))
Beautiful picture concidering the reflections never make it easy, it has come out really well. I agree these are simply complex, I think learnd it will take your photography to another level. I’m sure to see your images in the days to come.
Beautiful glittery shot Lucille Galleli

teresa pilcher … hee hee … I could never have guessed the minimalist lover bit of you 🙂 This photo was quite special. I saw the image in my head even before I clicked. Am glad it turned out the way it did.
I guess there are good and bad experiences. It’s a chance to learn to roll with the punches.
Glad I could get you to giggle 😀 Cheers.
Thanks a bunch … Piers Michael. This was quite an experience. I look forward to seeing more of your work as well 🙂
Thanks a bunch Jenn Camforth 😀
Olga Mendosa … Thank you so very much. You are so kind!
Lisa s … ha ha ha … so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks much for stopping by to comment!
Great images and lessons all around Lucille Galleli. I have only just encountered occasionally such situation and it usually makes me a bit more determined to keep shooting – I think this will make me share in the water cooler an image from this week… look for it… you will laugh I think. Well – glad you are also discovering more about your streets and your ideas through these lessons! Congratulations!!
Great image. I love the complexity and story-telling at the same time.
You make me laugh Lucille Galleli!! I had a concierge come out screaming at me too a few weeks ago but he explained that the interior of living areas have security regulations. Okay, I get that and the fact he didn’t understand the reflection part of my explanation either. It didn’t make me feel great but at least he understood that I wasn’t “casing the joint”!! Was it the better side of being run off? At least he didn’t call the police! Ssshheess!!
You stole a fabulous image here in sparkling royal blue and gold!! So cool and eye-catching!! A shot to be treasured with such a great plus post!! º\o/º
A really stellar post with great humor! Sorry about the concierge person! These things do happen but don’t let it deter from moving forward. Your images are beautiful and captivating! Wonderful post Lucille Galleli ! A pleasure my friend!
Stephanie Cassiday-Krueger … thank you so very much. Loved the image you shared. Street requires so much more awareness than other genres call for. I’m glad I stepped into this world.
Claudia Dutcher …. thank you so much 😀
Carmen Mandich … thank you so much, gal! I’m so glad I got this. I wanted to stop a bit and get a clearer shot, but it wouldn’t be the same to have them looking at the camera.
Angela Migliore .. thank you so so so much. Very kind of you. I’m glad you enjoy my images. This mentorship has made me go places I would never have visited. 🙂
