Plus Post – week 4

Plus Post – week 4

Plus Post

Half Way Mark!

I fell behind, I made several attempts at trails and water, but I was unable to get those creative juices flowing. And then we were introduced to ME, Pep and Reflections. WOW!

This week had me taking extra walks around the park and spending more time in the metro. I think I’ve gotten on to some watch lists with the security guys too, but meh! the things we do for love. And ain’t it so much better when the love is reciprocated.

When you walk past the same corridor and suddenly realise the whole wall is nothing but a huge black reflective surface.

Where textures of glass and brick and pretty much every surface suddenly jump out at you and scream shoot me, shoot me.

That said, the innumerable experiments also serve to bring home a few lessons. Quite firmly.

Several failed attempts at Pep Ventosa style images. Doesn’t help that it’s a style that I’ve been craving to try.

Several absolutely “Nailed it” reflection blur images, which turned out to have no reflection.

Several attempts at ME/not, while forgetting to switch ME on/off.

Gosh.

But with each step backwards, there has been encouragement and motivation. Keep swimming. Keep finding your vision.

The moderators have given us such amazing work to inspire us and such detailed guides to get us going. I keep feeling I haven’t done them enough, then I remind myself, this is just the start.

What I’ve learned this weekd:

Certain techniques work much better with an isolated subject.

Cameras don’t always “get” reflections. Manual, manual, manual.

Photos on the go are great, but take time off, plug in those headphones and lose yourself in your photography!

With this photo, I’ve tried to bring most of what we’ve been experimenting with together.

  1. A wonderful post and image, Lucille! When things don’t work out right away – remember, this is just the beginning of a journey that will go on long past the mentorship.

  2. Great post – thanks for sharing all your ups and downs. I’m glad you managed to catch up, I was a little concerned a couple of days ago as you hadn’t posted for a while. I’ve really enjoyed reading you posts and seeing your images over the past four weeks. This is a wonderful image especially the woman in red! (well there are two women in red, but I guess you know which one I’m talking about).

  3. Lucille Galleli this is a great post and beautiful image. You definitely nailed it. This was not an easy week for some of us, and you just got it. Way to go!

  4. You’ve said nicely what the learning process can be and that’s a good thing Lucille Galleli, your result here has great story, movement and lots of interest! Look forward to more.

  5. I really enjoyed reading your post Lucille, and this image is fantastic! I love how the reflective glass panels function as both leading lines and framing elements. Way cool.

  6. Such a touching write-up Lucille Galleli… Moving forward, not getting to where you want to be, running at other moments. Your fantastic image, set low, with terrific reflections and blurs, echoes your week in a great storytelling manner. You’re moving so fast that you don’t realize it!! :))

  7. Thanks Alex Lapidus… Feels good to talk about my experiences. I makes me slow down and think of what I’m doing, how I’m doing it and how I could get better. Thanks again for this opportunity!

  8. Hee hee … thank you so much, Edward Norton. For your kind words and for your concern. For a bit there, life did get me down, but I’m glad to be back.

Will keep your partiality to red in mind next time I’m out 😛
