Week 4 – Plus Post – Seeing Differently/ Unique Perspectives #FYV2018

Week 4 – Plus Post – Seeing Differently/ Unique Perspectives #FYV2018

To be honest, not my finest week. Constant rain and my disinclination to ruin a second camera in successive weeks made me a wee bit apprehensive about going out to shoot.

Thanks to some great advice from Teresa and a few minutes break in the rain, I had time enough to sneak a few shots in.

I realised that I interpreted “unusual perspective” as shooting “differently”, but I quickly noticed that trying to achieve this drew a lot more attention and made me extremely self-conscious.

I should go out there and practice this technique much more. Once the sun it out again, I will. Being vertically challenged, I’ve always been a big “shoot from a low angle” photographer, however I had never applied it to Street. But then, +teresa says and we comply ( 😄 ). Chuffed that I did.

Perspective can help exaggerate the subject. People can be used as frames or points of reference. Good composition defines whether they distract or help.

To add to all there was to learn this weekend, we’ve been treated to some amazing examples from around the world. Truth is, this mentorship makes me want to go out on shoot the subjects I found the most daunting – people!

Things I learned:

Get closer. Use a zoom, but more importantly, get over your inhibitions.

Try a wide-angle, it will help get that larger than life impression that I want to convey.

Some days work, some don’t. Keep at it.

  1. A great plus post and series of images this week Lucille Galleli I’m so sorry for your camera. Very nice use of pattern, light and shadows. A really nice example of simplification/ minimalism. So glad you persevered, I didn’t realise I had so much influence. ;))) Well done!

  2. I do like you how you spell out what you have learned each week. Its a great summary. I too am begining to want to discover and explore more from a wider point of view although more challenging to get closer. Wind and rain is a real challenge but downpoors alone are managable with one of those large golfing umbrellas I find, although the rain is lighter in the UK than it can be in Spain. I have the camera hung around my neck so I can lift and shoot with one hand. Took me a couple of years to appreciate that.

  3. The patterns of your image work so well. I like your main character interrupting with his shadow. Thanks for such a good review of your week. And indeed keep shooting!

  4. I hope you can revive the camera Lucille Galleli! I really like this image with the contrast in patterns – overhead pov – diagonal movement of the subject through the frame. Honesty in your words and perseverance prevails!!

  5. Angelo Gifford … we need to meet & talk & exchange some tips. Thing is, rain in April, May is not really the norm here. Madrid is known for it’s gorgeous blue skies. I’ll be getting a smaller, lighter camera and I’m definitely going to adopt your suggestions. Thank you so much.

Hope you are enjoying your experiments 😀

  6. No luck Stephanie Cassiday-Krueger … thanks for your good wishes though. I’ve placed an order for a new one… Thank goodness for anniversaries 😀 Your comment is so kind and beautiful. Much appreciated.
